As a matter of necessity, the stove had to be removed as the original installation was so dangerous to the occupants of Ratoath home. The original installer used 40cms of 6″ flexi attached to 5″ stove collar and inserted it through damper slot in cast iron backed horseshoe insert, and packed around it with cement. This was the second house I discovered this dangerous practice in on same estate and within 2 doors of each other. The homeowner opted to remove the decorative slate surround and cast iron and create the inglenook effect with lined skamolex fireboard.

The chimney is reclined with 904 grade flexi flue and insulated with vermiculite. On lowering the flexi we discovered that a very large amount (almost 40% of diameter of flueway) of mortar, dropped through sloppy work by original house builders. This lodged above the lower bend and what a job to remove it.
