This Stanley solid fuel cooker is serviced by a flue which travels horizontally for more than a metre, before 90 degreeing. A chimney fire resulted in me being called out. Firstly I issued a hazard notification, which went down okay, then I had the task of advising on an alternative safe installation. Not easy when the walls are a metre deep and of stone construction. A complete vertical twin wall thru ceiling, bedroom and roof seemed like a good suggestion by me, only to discover that the first floor wall extends into kitchen, obviously a base for an upstairs fireplace at some point. Consensus now has to be reached on the repositioning of cooker, sink, units etc. The jury is still out. This will no doubt be a long drawn out saga. Watch this space.
